Face Your Fear and Do It Anyway

What is fear? Why do we need to acknowledge it, explain or study the power of it? Fear . . . False Evidence Appearing Real consumes most of our thought lives. It is not taking the LEAP of faith, it is the fear of the LEAP that keeps us in place of limiting beliefs.

The past few weeks I have been studying what it means to be an entrepreneur. In my quest of a deeper understanding, I have been reminded that being an entrepreneur is not “owning a business” . . . it is “owning your thought life”. When you grow yourself, you grow a beautiful life to light the world.

I have often heard this quote from my mentor and coach “grow yourself, grow your business”. In a world of endless possibilities, the first step is to educate ourselves on how to make it possible. Interestingly enough, it is the WHY that fuels the journey, not the HOW.

William Butler Yeats said, “Education is not the filling of a pail, but the lighting of a fire.” It is “fire” in the belly that makes things happen. The quickest thing to snuff that fire is living in fear.

Why do we allow False Evidence Appearing Real to stop us from burning with a passion to light the world? Today is my first blog post on my new site that I have been thinking about for many years. So many limiting beliefs have held me back from taking the LEAP. What if I start this blog and no one reads it? How will I respond to comments? Will I stay committed to writing on a consistent basis? What if I run out of things to say? The list goes on.

Taking those limiting beliefs and turning them into affirmations was the turning point. I made a decision to a attend a WordCamp in Wilmington, NC with my husband to learn more about his business as a web designer and how I could support him. In the back of my mind, I thought it would be cool if I learned something about blogging and how to take the LEAP to start my own blog in spite of my fear. I intentionally surrounded myself with people who stretched my thinking for 48 hours. I listened a lot! I took notes! I debriefed with my husband on my “takeaway” from the conference.

So now what?! If I don’t do something with what I have learned in the next few weeks, it will be as though I never attended WordCamp. “Education is not the filling of the pail, but the lighting of a fire.” What will I do with what I have learned? I tried to dance around the idea once again and finally realized now is the time to start what I had been putting off.

“All change begins with an ending.” – Bill Bridges the author of Transitions.

T.S. Eliot said, “The end is where we start from.” The fire now has a small flame and is beginning to burn. It is the end of my limiting beliefs, and the beginning of a new journey.

“All wealth is created in the human mind, and we must increase the quality of our thoughts.” – Barbara Stanny author of Secrets of a Six-Figure Woman

What limiting beliefs are keeping you from the life you were meant to live? Our boats were meant to leave the harbor. Think of all the beautiful places you can sail if you just untie your rope from the dock. There are people waiting to meet you and be impacted by your unlimited mindset.

Face your FEAR and do it anyway and join me as we light the world with the fires in our bellies…until next Friday.
